I must say that Hello Charlotte can stand out as a weird game for gamers out there. It may settle well for horror lovers and if you are, meet Hello Charlotte which is a Visual NovelRoleplaying Game (VN RPG) developed by indie game developer Etherane. For fear lovers, the game is simply a puzzle horror where you get to control the puppet called Charlotte.
Hello Charlotte is an episodic game with two episodes available. The first episode is free while the second episode is downloadable at the price point of about $4.50. The graphics are minimalistic and in 2D, something modern gamers are way past so that might be an issue for you. However, despite the minimalistic look, the storytelling and background music build-up to create the game's surrealistic horror environment.
Hello Charlotte 3
The Episodes
Hello Charlotte 1
The first episode tells the story of a strangely, deadly, and humorous world. Junk food, gods and teddy bears is the name of the first episode which makes no sense because none of what is mentioned in the name is predominant in the game. The second episode – Hello Charlotte EP2: Requiem Aeternam Deo stands out as a psychological horror with Memphis aesthetics coupled with a philosophy of its own. Exceedingly, it just comes out as a weird game according to my opinion.
Both the episodes are available in English and Russian while the first episode is also available in Spanish and Korean. The phenomenon makes it advantageous for people who understand the languages given the game is a storytelling game.
Loading the Game
Loading the game and going through the initial literature hypnotizes you into a deeper sense of curiosity. As you read the words popping up on your screen and let the creepy music sink into your environment, it somewhat sends cold chills down your spine. I must say that some of the images presented to the gamer are not kid-friendly at the beginning so this is not a game you would want to get for the young. Maybe late teens to adulthood.
However, after getting through the introduction, the background TV noises before the game begins sort of startle you from the hypnotized paradox and remind you that the game is a horror. Then you are presented with the two-dimensional layout of where your movement is going to be restricted and your task is handed to you.
Depending on the task, you have to move around in the proximity of the objects placed in the room to get more information from them which is displayed on a dialogue box at the bottom of the screen. I find the dialogue box distracting as it does not go away while the game can be boring because you stick to the same environment or layout until you walk out of the room.
To be honest, if you are an action buff of minimalist nature, you will not find the game interesting. It stands out as a game that the female gender may enjoy the most. It is a game that one would play to pass time.
Pros and Cons
